Today I’m announcing the debut of Batteries Included Fund and our first big event — Park Bench Pitch at New York Climate Week, September 23-27, 2024.
I’ve never opened a restaurant, but friends and family who have swear by the soft opening. Work out the kinks, get some feedback while you’re still under the radar.
Nah, let’s just ship it…
The Batteries Included Fund debuts Sep 23-27 in NYC
It was late September, 2023, and I was under the weather — a severe case of FOMO. When the fever broke, I made the decision to do NYC Climate Week 2024.
Within minutes of booking my flight a few weeks ago, I FOMO-relapsed. Ugh.
For the past few weeks, Lydia Nichols and I have been pouring over this spreadsheet from the great folks at Climate Tech VC, trying to get a grip on it all.
It feels great when we find a cool event (you had me at pigeons), but too often, planning for New York feels like a bad version of filling out Jazz Fest cubes — where every stage has a bouncer who gets to decide if you’re cool enough to listen. That’s not how Jazz Fest works.
Then Lydia came up with the idea of meeting with founders in the park. It’s autumn in New York after all. We’d really like Climate Week to feel more like Jazz Fest - more open, more human.
So we’re doing something different...
Park Bench Pitch @ NYC Climate Week
Park Bench Pitch is our attempt to make some real human connections, especially with founders and other family office folks while we’re at this big, intimidating thing called Climate Week.
Here’s how it works:
15 minute meetings on anything you want
In a park near the other Climate Week venues
On a park bench next to which I’ve parked my ebike
Yes, I’m taking my JackRabbit to NYC. E-bike travel FTW.No screening. If there’s a spot open it’s yours. I believe in Serendipity and randomness.
So far, we have 24 spots open. We’ll add more the week of.
If you are a founder who will be in New York the last week of September, please sign up and/or spread the word.
We’re also curious about folks working in family offices investing in the energy transition. If that’s you or someone you know, please get in touch.
There will be much more about the fund coming soon; stay tuned for that. And always reach out to me if you have something you want to pitch or share.
